STATE LEGISLATIVE BUDGET CONFERENCE COMMITTEE DISCUSSES PROPOSAL TO FUND PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT THE NON-CREDIT RATE (APPROX. 7 MINUTES)-6/5/2009 - The audio file is from the Friday, June 5, 2009 meeting of the California State Legislative Budget Conference Committee. The segment of the session is specific to the proposal to fund Physical Education at the non-credit rate. What is disconcerting is the representation by the Legislative Analyst Office representative characterizing Physical Education as "recreation". This began following the original proposal and in the public comment session held on June 1, 2009. The LAO has characterized all of Physical Education as yoga, palates, basket weaving, ping pong (not table tennis), badminton (I am sure the LAO representative has no idea about Olympic or tournament badminton) and on some occasions, tennis.
